Tokyo Photo Journal #2
Tokyo Photo Journal #1
I spend a decent amount of time out and about in Tokyo, Japan. Between editorial and commercial photography assignments, I find great joy in wandering aimlessly through the streets with a pair of headphones on and a small, mirrorless camera in my hand. Most of the time I come home with zero “keepers” (So is the life of a photographer). But every now and again I manage to capture an image that, for one reason or another, resonates with me.
For a long time, I haven’t felt the pull to publish any of the photos hiding on my computer, images existing in randomly named folders. But lately I have felt cluttered, almost as if the JPEGS are crowding me, boxing me in. By posting them, I hope that I will feel a little less cramped and ready to move into the new year.
These frames are nothing more than personal snapshots of my surroundings here in Tokyo. But, the photos deserve to get out of their digital caves and have a bit of a shelf life before being dragged-and-dropped onto a hard drive, likely never to be seen again.. With this said, I am going to start publishing a Tokyo Photo Journal, a visual dumping ground of random images taken in and around the Japanese capital.
Central Vietnam In Color
A few days ago I posted a collection of monochrome images. Today I am sharing a saturated compliment to that collection. Just like the black and white series, these colorful images were made between Hoi An and Hue this past June during Pics of Asia's Central Vietnam photo tour.
I really enjoyed culling the images for this collection. Through the process, I had some personal realizations about who I am as a photographer. I am eager to share some of those thoughts soon. Stay tuned.
Central Vietnam In Monochrome
During the second week of June, I headed out with Pics of Asia to co-lead an amazing central Vietnam tour. It was my first time joining Etienne Bossot on one of his highly regarded photo expeditions. I was honored to be invited to work with a group of (already talented) participants to help improve their portrait and travel photography skills. I was especially excited to return to Vietnam, my favorite country in Southeast Asia.
For five days our group surrounded ourselves with much of what makes Vietnam so beautiful and culturally rich, taking our time to enjoy the people, food, and stunning environments found throughout Vietnam's heartland. Starting in Hoi An, we headed north and meandered our way along the coastline to the lagoons around Huế. By the time our expedition came to an end, we had explored the Perfume River and the verdant countryside that surrounds it.
For this particular post, I am sharing a set of monochrome images that I shot between Hoi An and Hue. Stay tuned for another, colorful collection of images from the tour.
